Ladies at BECHS bring home First Place in "Women in Mathematics" Competition!

On Tuesday, Oct. 16, twenty-one female students from grades 9-12 from BERTIE EARLY COLLEGE HIGH SCHOOL participated in the 23rd Annual Celebration of Women in Mathematics at Elizabeth City State University.

Students participated in two workshop sessions: Cryptography and Tessellations.

The team WON FIRST PLACE in the Math Sprint Competition. This is where a team of five students have 50 minutes to work together to solve 20 problems.

Also for the first time, Mrs. Tammy Jernigan, a math teacher at BECHS and the team sponsor, WON FIRST PLACE in the teacher obstacle course.

The team of students safely returned to BECHS with a tall pink 1st Place trophy, an even higher accomplishment from the 2nd place trophy received the previous year.

And Mrs. Jernigan proudly held her shiny, green FIRST PLACE trophy for her win as well.

Bertie Early College High School Family and Central Services Staff proudly congratulate them all!
