Maya Angelo once said, “I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”  These are words I live by not only in my personal life but my professional life as well.  I am Tawanda Coston Smallwood and it is indeed a privilege and an honor to be “back home” at Bertie Middle School.  All of my educational career has been right here in Bertie County.  I taught middle school math for 17 years and was an instructional coach at the middle school for a year.  I served as an assistant principal at the middle school for two years before becoming an elementary school principal for four years.  I am currently serving as a math instructional coach at the middle school. 

As a math instructional coach, my goal is to help facilitate teacher growth and development in ways that will lead to increased student achievement.  In working directly with math teachers, I am able to provide instructional support, data analysis and professional development.  Keeping students at the forefront, working together, I know we will make a difference.
