A child’s success in school and everyday life is closely connected to the ability to communicate effectively. Communication skills include understanding and following directions, expressing thoughts and needs, interacting socially with others, and participating successfully in the learning environment.
Communication needs can take many forms and may require support from a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP). Bertie County Schools’ Speech-Language Pathologists work collaboratively across grade levels to support the individual communication needs of students. Services may include individual or small-group therapy, consultation, and collaboration with teachers and families.
Speech-language services are provided to eligible students whose communication needs impact their educational performance. Areas of support may include articulation/speech sound production, receptive and expressive language, social communication, fluency, voice, and aural rehabilitation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing.
