Student Rights
Students in foster care are entitled to:

Remain in their school of origin when placed into foster care, if it is determined to be in their best interest.

Best Interest Determination (BID) Meeting – A decision-making process to determine the most appropriate school setting for the student.
Best Interest Determination Process
A Best Interest Determination (BID) meeting is held to decide whether a student should remain in their school of origin. This meeting includes collaboration among:

Parent or family representative (when appropriate)

Department of Social Services (DSS) caseworker

Public school transportation director

Public school foster care liaison (school-level and district-level)
