A Message From the Superintendent
Greetings Bertie County Schools’ Parents, Families, & Stakeholders
On behalf of the Bertie County Board of Education, and the entire staff of Bertie County Schools, I welcome you to the 2022-23 school year! We are looking forward to creating and continuing positive partnerships to ensure that our scholars will experience positive social, emotional, and academic outcomes. This year, like others, I can assure you that the staff and I will work diligently each day to provide your child with safe, high-quality, engaging, and student-centered learning opportunities that will prepare him/her to graduate and become productive citizens.
The last couple of years has presented us with many challenges. However, the challenges will NEVER defeat us. By working together as a team, we can provide everything our scholars need to succeed. Please make a commitment to take an active role in the education of your child. Visit schools often, communicate with your child’s teachers and principal, volunteer (if you have the time), and attend athletic events and other school activities that the school may host. These are just a few things that you can do to stay involved in the academic life of your child. EXPECT the best for your child from Bertie County Schools! This is how we can help hold each other accountable. I am happy about the exciting programs and courses that we have been able to offer over the last three years. As Superintendent, I will work diligently to ensure that your child has the best school experience possible. As our new motto states, we are “Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing!”
Thanks for assisting me in building a better Bertie (#BuildingABetterBertie)!
Educationally yours,
Otis L. Smallwood, Ed.D.
