Mrs. Jacqueline Thompson
6th-8th CTE Health Science and Carpentry
I teach the following quarterly (45 day) long classes as a part of Health Science for 6th-8th grade:
*Medical Terminology & Body Systems in Therapeutic Service Careers (6th Grade)
*Medical Terminology & Body Systems in Diagnostic Service Careers (7th Grade)
*Medical Terminology & Body Systems in Biotechnology Careers (8th Grade)
Your child can work with a partner or in groups in my class. As a part of my Health Science courses, students learn the origin and definitions of various prefixes, root words, and suffixes as they pertain to the medical world. What students learn in these courses can help improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension, allowing them to grow in their core classes, benchmarks, and EOGs.
NOTE: Both 6th and 7th grade students, who also take band, split their time with my class.
I also have the pleasure of teaching my 8th graders carpentry for two quarters. In this class, students explore the world of construction and carpentry. They learn the process from starting a construction project with bids and contracts through laying the foundation, the importance of inspections, and granting the final acceptance. This class has hands-on activities such as creating blueprints and houses made from popsicle sticks and balsa wood.
