WELCOME to Bertie County Schools!

Through high expectations, excellence in teaching, adherence to best practices and maintenance of a safe, orderly environment, our mission is to ensure that all students master the skills necessary for success as life-long learners in a rapidly changing world.  Learning and teaching are the actions that drive our mission.  These actions encompass everyone: students and teachers, secretaries and bus drivers, principals and food service workers, board members and superintendent. Learning is an imperative; something that is essential to our continued success.  Teaching is what we all do – every day as we walk and talk before and in the presence of our students.

Every issue in society presents in our public schools. Additionally, every opinion on every issue is present in our schools and, therefore, in the communities they serve. Public education has many challenges including funding, calls for reform, equity and safety. These challenges require, no demand, that we increase our learning as adults so we continually improve the education of our students.

We want to keep learning. We must keep learning if we are to realize our district’s vision for each and every one of our 3,000+ students – that all of our students will graduate College, Career and Life Ready!

Already staff expect to hear two quotes each time I speak with them one being the words of John Heywood, “By the hands of many a great work is made light.”  Indeed there is no greater work than teaching children.  Indeed there is no work more challenging, and so there is no work more demanding of many hands – ours and yours.  Partner with us to continue the academic growth that Bertie County Schools has evidenced in recent years.  We are pleased with the progress made but never satisfied with the status quo.
